Opening: Eliza Lutz | How We Are Harrowed at Show Pony

Artist, musician & Matron Records founder Eliza Lutz unveils 'How We Are Harrowed,' the visual half of her album 'Harrow' with band Future Scars featuring the companion illustrations to each of the record’s ten songs at a special 3 day exhibition at Show Pony Gallery in Santa Fe, July 5th-7th.

Join us for the opening reception July 5th from 6pm-9pm with a special collaborative performance by Future Scars & Ppoacher ppoacher. All ages welcome, no cover.

Drawing on Lutz’s intense personal experiences, Harrow tells the story of how trauma can bend time and fracture the self. The songs were first written in color, honing in on Lutz’s synesthesia, then translated into unique guitar tunings that matched the thematic palates and then illustrated by Lutz in gouache, watercolor and ink, constructing a dual visual/sonic language heavy in symbology, nature & metaphor.

“I created this visual album during a very difficult and traumatic time in my life,” explains Lutz. “I was reeling from the breakup of Future Scars’ original lineup after I was assaulted by our former bassist. The experience was so exhausting and emotionally confusing, I almost felt like giving up on art entirely. But ultimately, I decided that would be a defeat. So I wrote Harrow in an effort to process and tell the story of what happened to me as it was unfolding.”

The result is a multi-media work engaging the world much like its namesake, a word defined as both the implement and its resulting action. Harrow, through its songs and their companion illustrations, is a record of reckoning and the act of reckoning itself, and in the wake of such disruption, as with the harrowed ground and harrowed body, a space where new life might take hold.

'How We Are Harrowed' shows at Show Pony from July 5th-7th. Opening reception featuring music by Future Scars & Ppoacher ppoacher on July 5th from 6pm-9pm. Harrow the album comes out on Matron Records on August 9th.
